WordPress Guide For Beginners
Here are the basic wordpress tips to kick off your blog.Step #1. Configure The Admin User
You can get to the admin user page by visiting – Dashboard – Users – Administrator. Now at the admin user page you’ll be doing two important things. Firstly, you have to change your wordpress admin username if it’s bearing “Admin”. Why? The “Admin” name is too easy to guess, hereby making it easy for hackers to penetrate your new wordpress blog and am sure you wouldn’t want that.To Change the Default Admin username on WordPress
- On your dashboard, move to the users page and select “add new user”
- Set the new admin role to “Administrator” and use a different username (not “Admin”)
- Fill in the other information and click “Add new user”
- Move back to the users’ page and delete the old Administrator. Also, if you’ve published a new post, attribute them to the new Administrator.
- Visit the users page on your dashboard, move to “Administrator” and select “Edit”
- Scroll down to biographical info and write few things you’ll love readers to know about you.
Step #2. Install The Necessary Plugins
Once your wordpress blog is live, one of the first steps to take is to install the plugins that will help your blog perform better and serve readers well. This includes an SEO plugin, social sharing plugin, cache plugin and so on. Keep in mind that the plugins a blog uses totally depends on the blog type.Step #3. Change Your Post Permalink
In terms of ranking your blog posts on search engines, your permalink plays an important role. Your aim here is to select a permalink structure that will include words. A default wordpress permalink looks like this – http://tekytech.com/?p=123.Now, for a better post performance you need to change to something better. To change your wordpress permalink – On your dashboard – Visit Settings – Permalinks – then select “day and name”, “month and name” or “post name” – Save changes. In that way, your permalink can fetch your post title.
